2015 BOARD’S TECH GLOSSARY
CRAIG KELLY PROTO FACILITY
Technical evolution takes on a whole new meaning thanks to Craig’s, Burtons in-house Vermont proto facility, where his passion for innovation continues to this day. Burtons custom-built rapid prototyping machinery allows them to take an idea, build it, and ride it the very next day. they can tweak and rebuild accordingly, sometimes creating hundreds of prototypes until our team’s standards are met. Test, refine, repeat. Instant feedback. Endless progression.
BOARD FINDER SLIDERS
It’s no secret that Burton make the most diverse and complete Snowboard line-up in the industry, with each board targeting a specific type of rider. To help narrow the rider’s search, they have simplified each board based on the four most basic factors.
This slider tells you what kind of Bend a board has, whether it’s camber, rocker, Flat Top, or a hybrid blend of rocker and camber.
A groomer Snowboard can ride pow or park, but if someone prefers one over the other, they should consider where this lands based on characteristics like Bend and shape.
Doesn’t matter if you’ve been riding one day or daily for 10 years, some riders like to rip hard and fast and expect a board that keeps up, while others prefer a board that’s soft and playful.
Not to be overlooked, boot size not only determines binding size, but should account for a board’s width. Toe and heel drag can ruin a ride and if a board’s too wide it’s harder to get on edge.
Every board we make is waxed, buffed, finessed, and shred-ready before leaving the factory. Burtons Microfinish process involves over 30 finishing steps, including an edge tune and detune, that puts the right amount of sharpness and bevel on each board to ensure the perfect finish for all riding styles and conditions.
ENDURO WAXING PROCESS
After Microfinishing comes Enduro Waxing. Each board is waxed and hot-buffed for a shiny, super-fast ride right out of the shop.
This Burton-exclusive technology allows us to maximize pop and strength by overbuilding the board, then putting it in a machine that breaks in the board for you. Whether you choose to ride Springloaded, Rocker, or Camber, rest assured that with Infinite Ride™ your board will maintain its flex, pop, and feel from the first day forward, season after season.
Stronger, faster, easier, and more adjustable—The Channel™ gives you ultimate control of your stance and your board in a design compatible with all major bindings (not just Burton’s). In fact, we trust it so much that all boards with The Channel are backed by a 3-year warranty.
Go ahead and get picky with your splitboarding stance, and continue to fine-tune it as the season unfolds. With the Split Channel, you get the strongest, fastest, easiest, and most adjustable mounting system ever offered on a splitboard. The days of compromise are officially over. All Burton splitboards with the Split Channel come with pucks pre-mounted for easy setup.
M6 TRANSITION KIT
The M6 Transition Kit (available for FREE with Burton board purchase) contains everything needed to ride pre-2011 Burton Disc and EST® bindings with the latest generation of The Channel™. The kit includes two retro discs for compatibility with Burton Disc bindings, as well as a full set of the M6 Transition hardware for compatibility with both Burton Disc and EST bindings.
GREEN MOUNTAIN PROCESS
Burton’s Green Mountain Process grows from our deep roots in Vermont’s Green Mountains to be an overarching product design and development process in which sustainability is considered at every step along the way. The result is a better experience for everyone involved.

The flex is perfectly symmetrical from tip to tail for a balanced ride that’s equally versatile regular or switch.
This flex features increased pop in the tail and a more resilient nose that allows riders to easily maintain control through all terrain and conditions.
A board's Bend from tip to tail determines how playful or precise the ride will be, and when it comes to Bend, Burton offers a dialed variety. Stick with the classic pop and precision of camber, the playfulness of rocker options like V-Rocker™ and Flat Top, or the best of both worlds with hybrids like NEW PurePop camber, S-Rocker™, and Flying V™.
An advocate of powerful turns and poppy precision, camber speaks to the core values of board design. Offering a snappy suspension, camber distributes weight evenly over the entire length of the board for smooth, continuous edge control from tip to tail.
NEW PUREPOP CAMBER
An evolution of a traditional camber shape, our NEW PurePop Camber profile features subtle flat zones just outside your feet to amplify pop and add playfulness to the snap and response of camber. Early rise tip and tail sections spin and float with a catch-free feel.
In deep snow, speed and float are your friends, and that’s what S-Rocker™ is all about. While the design specifics vary between boards, the basics are an entry rocker that extends from the nose to under your front foot, then transitions to either camber or flat between your feet. This design causes the entry rocker to lift the nose, thus improving float while maintaining momentum and stability through deep-driving pow turns and variable conditions.
A blend of camber and rocker performance, Flying V™ offers the best of both worlds. Rocker overall, including between and outside your feet, enhances playfulness and float. Underneath your feet, subtle camber zones focus edge-control for crisp snap, added pop, and powerful turns.
Rising rider or seasoned pro, keep your game high and tight with Flat Top. A flat profile between the feet means stability, better balance, and continuous edge control. The tip and tail kick up with an early rise outside the feet for the catch-free, loose feeling you’d expect from rocker.
Continuous rocker between your feet and outside your feet towards the tip and tail creates catch-free playfulness and improved float from peak to park. On select models, Frostbite Edges enhance power and grip, balancing the board’s overall loose and forgiving feel.

SUPER FLY® CORE
Lightened up and loaded with pop, this vertical sandwich of hard and soft woods saves weight and improves snap and response. Further optimized for float in our freeride focused boards, and strength in our park-focused boards.
Our classic tip to tail wood core, constantly improved upon in terms of flex, feel, pop, and strength.
EGD: ENGINEERED GRAIN DIRECTION
ABurtonexclusive. Manipulating the angles and direction of wood grain placement within the core results in superior edge-hold, response, and durability.
In four separate zones, the wood grain is perpendicular to the core adjacent to The Channel™—the area from which a rider’s power emanates—for ultimate strength and edge control.
The wood grain is positioned along the toe and heel edges on two continuous zones, perpendicular to the rest of the wood core, for consistent edge-hold and added strength.
Using a formula from the future, Mystery Glass is the result of a robotic-built complex carbon layup that allows us to manipulate flex and feel while revolutionizing strength-to-weight. Exclusive to the Mystery.
Carbon Highlights optimizes each layer of the fiberglass matrix and adds a full tip-to-tail carbon layer to reduce weight and fine tune torsional feel to achieve different ride characteristics. A 60° fiber angle creates a highly maneuverable and playful feel, while a 45° fiber angle provides a more aggressive ride. Hi-Voltage models like the Antler, Custom X, Landlord, and Landlord Split include the addition of carbon strands to the angled fiber layers to add life and further reduce weight.
Versatile flex and response for everything from mini to mega shred.
DUAL DENSITY TRIAX™ FIBERGLASS
Dual density fibers from tip to tail add strength and snap without sacrificing weight-savings.
Features a jib-friendly, torsionally soft flex and forgiving, park-friendly feel.

SINTERED WFO BASE
Infusing a specially formulated wax deep into the pores of this extra-absorbent, high-density sintered material results in an ultra-durable base that stays Wide F!#@ing Open all season in any condition.
Durable and highly porous, get added durability and superior wax absorption for greater overall glide.
Speed, strength, and graphical pop in a base that requires little maintenance. Pass your friends without even waxing.
Introduced by Burton long before all the hype about wavy “serrated knife” edges, Frostbite extends out slightly beneath your bindings for tremendous edge-hold on hard, icy conditions. Powerful when you need them, playful when you don’t, Frostbite Edges are hungry for hard-pack while remaining smooth, flowing, and forgiving.
OVERBITE FROSTBITE EDGES
This evolution in edge tech gives you more fang with less bang by giving you twice the amount of Frostbite. It’s a subtle tweak, but the result is a huge increase in grip on hard, icy conditions while remaining smooth and catch-free. Exclusive to the NEW Talent Scout, Deja Vu Flying V™, Social, and NEW Socialite.
NEW DUAL GUARD RAILS
Engineered as a defense against destruction, NEW Dual Guard Rails upgrade durability, add dampening, and amp up visual appeal in the sidewall dimension. Dual Guard Rails are a combination of high-grade TPU that provides cushioning with extremely durable polycarbonate for increased strength.
Aggressive rippers take note. 10:45’s extra-meaty, dual angle geometry results in bomber impact absorption.
The standard throughout most of the line, its 28° profile creates consistent edge-hold that cuts like a knife.
Burton’s patented Raduction design optimizes every element—from waist width and flex profile to sidecut and running length—letting you downsize up to 10cm from your normal board length. Light and lively, easy to throw around, surprisingly floaty, poppy, and stable at speed—Raduction will change the way you look at board length for good.
Make it short and sweet. Raduction is featured on the Nug, Nug Flying V™, Nugget, Fish, NEW Pile Driver, Spliff, and Barracuda.
Some riders want a more flexible board without sacrificing performance. Filet-O-Flex solves that challenge with ultra-thin profiling that creates soft boards that rip with maximum stability, durability, and grip. An additional benefit is subtle suspension and underfoot padding. Featured on the Name Dropper, NEW Pile Driver, NEW Socialite, and ProTest.
This patent-pending technology improves pop and performance through the balance of thicker, more powerful core sections with thinner, more flexible sections. Rider energy is transferred outward from beneath the feet, energizing the tip and tail while making the board snappier, more stable, and easier to manipulate. For 2015 we’ve added two new make-ups of the technology.
- SQUEEZEBOX HIGH
By integrating carbon fleece into the classic Squeezebox profile, we’ve loaded up our highest performance core profiling with more pop. Layered just outside your feet, the carbon enables almost instant response in the tip and tail.
- SQUEEZEBOX LOW
With an overall easier feel, NEW Squeezebox Low brings high-end core profiling technology to the progressing rider. Stiffer zones just outside your feet create a more direct energy transfer to the tip and tail, while enabling a softer, smoother flex between the bindings. The end result is more control with less effort from the rider.
This ultra-light carbon backbone increases pop and longitudinal snap.
Off-Axis tweaks key technologies that vary by board to match the angles of your typical park rider’s stance. This anatomical alignment results in better toe and heel edge grip, natural flex around the bindings, and a smoother feel during take-offs and landings. Exclusive to the Custom Twin, Custom Twin Flying V™, Parkitect, NEW Process Off-Axis, and Name Dropper, and NEW Talent Scout.
This patented design lengthens the surface area at the tip and tail contact points to improve edge-hold and allow the board to plane easier in pow. Enjoy a livelier feel and enhanced grip on groomers along with added float for overhead days.
BALANCED FREERIDE GEOMETRY
Twin or directional is the age-old question for creative rippers like Terje. Balanced Freeride Geometry on the Landlord, Landlord Split, NEW Flight Attendant, and Anti-Social ends the debate with setback camber and a sidecut that is centered on your stance to create a twin freestyle feel when riding flat base. On edge it turns tight and quick with the float and prowess expected from a directional deck.
A tapered tip and tail thickness reduces swing weight for easier mobility.
This elliptical tip and tail shape promotes pop while providing added float and clearance when riding pow and variable conditions.
This exaggerated tip and tail scooping turns up the edges for a looser, more forgiving feel that adds catch-free fun when riding everything from a knee-high box to neck-deep pow.
Boosts confidence with the catch-free combo of a softer flex and mellower edge tune. On tapered boards like the Clash™ and Feather™ the nose is fully convex for all-terrain stability.
Easy Rider on the Genie, Chopper®, Chicklet™, Riglet, and After School Special gives riders an incredibly soft and forgiving board that’s virtually impossible to catch an edge on. With a convex base that lifts the edges off the snow and a super soft flex, these boards make it easy to learn balance and board control.
